About Us

…. yo na dharmartho vivardhati, sa kamah…..

That (action) which enhances neither wealth nor (community) welfare, goes to appease baser instincts (such as ego, vanity, greed, etc.). …
                                                                       Acharya VishnuGupta ‘Kautilya’3rd Century BCE.

InformedLife is a project managed by ALps Limited. It is designed on the state-of-art management principles that also resonate with ancient texts such as the Vedas, Bhagvad Geeta, Arthashastra, etc.

Alps activities are around sciences like Ayurveda, yoga from Patanjala Yoga sutra, etc.

Mission Acknowledgment : …. soham (we exist to serve others our raison d’être), is a proud declaration of interdependence. We firmly believe that wealth, like energy, can neither be generated nor destroyed and can only be transferred (one form to another). Not being truly ‘mankind’ made ( Apaurusheya ), pure wealth ( Lakshya-mi ) leads to wellbeing of those it is associated with. So, of the ways ‘ethics’ can be defined in, to ALps Limited Apaurusheya Lakshmi IS altruism defined.

Objective; To increase organisation, executive, partner and society’s wealth.

Aims are to :
• Help establish beneficial relationships between organisations and people.

• Get its investors returns above market median rate.

• Create effective teams

• Provide its executives opportunities to develop career and earn performance related     wages.

• Invest part profits to conserve nature and communities around the source of raw material.

Beneficiary hierarchical order : Investors, members, executives, women, senior citizens and children.

The concept : believes that wealth brought with Team Work can become infinitely sustainable by a Just (Dharmic) Organisation when;
• Wealth not directly linked to individual efforts gets credited to The Organisation.
• Those expecting rewards recognise that ‘whole is greater than sum of the parts'.
• Stakeholders are guided by Mahatma Gandhi's views ‘the world has enough to meet
everyone's need but not enough to meet even one person's greed'.

Why not a Charity?

            a) To attract Investments

            b) Solicit Executive Transparency, Accountability and Commitment.

            c) Reach its direct/ indirect benefits to all receivers,

What is dharma?
Dharma (of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism), or ‘dharam’ for the Sikhs, comes from root dhri in Sanskrit, which means to ‘accept’. In broader terms, it is that which enjoins every follower of Indic faiths to consider in all of his or her actions.

Also, dhri when extended to ‘dhrn’ means sustainable.

A Lifestyle Venture

Based in Edinburgh – Scotland – we provide products and services to ‘appease' all 5 of senses relating to the Body, Mind and Spirit with natural and nature friendly products.

Our products are based on traditional life and well being sciences that have been used in India subcontinent for thousands of years.

Largely, these are from
Ayurveda, Yunani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) and Tibetan.

Ayurveda and Yoga based on Vedic principles of Natural Law, help link spiritual practices with philosophy, diet, medicine and exercise for a balanced and integrated life.

In India an Ayurvedic practitioner is called a ‘Vaidya'.

InformedLife is primarily focused on Indic Sciences of Ayurveda and Yoga.

The Market Segment is estimated to be over $ 29 billion in the USA and US $ 100 world wide.

Venture direction; Guided by good management principles and Vedic wisdom enshrined in ALps Limited's principles.

Towards
Collaboration InformedLife is interested to hear from Entrepreneurs (professionals, capable of taking risk) from disciplines like Medicine, Fitness/ health clubs/ well being centres; Restaurant/ catering establishments; large property owners interested in creating Health Rejuvenation centres; Spiritually motivated Self-help/ self-study (swadhyaya) voluntary organisations; food industry investors, etc.

Scope:
Almost phenomenal, as Vedic science has 40 approaches to live life in accordance with holistic ‘Natural Law' or ‘Unified Field' known to administer the universe with harmony.
Strategic Business Units/ Ventures to be floated on this approach are:
   1.
For health clubs teaching 3 or more eastern disciplines. Higher Learning classes
   2.
For spas; panchakarma centres.
   3.
Catering establishments, Balanced diet/ health foods; organic farming, culinary herbs.
   4.
Manufacturers of Polyherbal food supplements, toiletries and cosmetics.
   5.
Farmers of medicinal, culinary and aromatic herbs.
   6.
Cottage industry for hand made mats, herbal incense, aroma therapy oils, etc.

Services :
InformedLife complements services provided by health clubs, yoga centres and spas. Arrangements can be made to help ‘fill-in' areas mentioned by Patanjala Yoga sutra (Ashtanga) under Yama (moral codes) and Niyama (self-discipline and study) in partnership with other organisations and provide phone/ email back-end support (expert and relevant ‘agony aunts').

As many Yoga practitioners wish to move ahead and harmonize their lives, pranayama (breath control) sessions can be practised with Higher Learning techniques from Himalayan Masters.

For those not entirely contented with their sense of ‘wellbeing' a ‘ holistic' approach can help restore energies and remove imbalances categorised as :

       • Adhibhautika roga: diseases due to imbalance of the five body elements.
       • Adidaivika roga: genetic and allergic ailments
       • Adhyatmika roga: self-inflicted diseases, mostly emotions related.

Short term :
PanchKarma can help restore balance and remove afflictions (dosha) with detoxification techniques that in include, sweating, physiotherapy/ massage, etc. under the watchful eyes of a qualified doctor.
A session can last from an hour or two to a day and complete treatment – up to 2 weeks.

The treatment can be carried out in health centres, spas, ‘rejuvenation' centres, etc. Best when in natural surroundings.

Medium to long term :
The patient then follows up with yoga or other disciplines postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and maintaining recommended diet.

What would the short term remedies do?
As a medical system Ayurveda is particularly helpful for asthma, anxiety, insomnia, viral infections, rheumatoid arthritis, digestive problems, eczema and other skin conditions, and wound healing.

The Practitioners :
Fully qualified Ayurvedic physicians undergo a five-year degree course at Indian, Sri Lankan or now even UK Schools to gain a BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) or DAMS (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery). They prescribe and monitor herbal remedies and detoxification regimes.

And the procedure :
The Ayurvedic doctor assesses patient's doshic constitution (tridosha) by checking the pulse and asking personal questions family history, lifestyle, bowel habits, etc. Treatment targets the whole person rather than specific disease symptoms.
Imbalances can be restored by prescribing Herbal and mineral remedies, panchakarma detoxification programme, dietary advice considering age, condition, season of the year, etc.

Quality Control with InformedLife is led by a UK trained India domiciled British Scientist. A visiting faculty of academic and research bodies, he also advises Indian Standards Institute.

Farming : Having successful cultivated 15 species of endangered Medicinal herbs at an MSL 8000 foot farm in Himalayas, the group is now growing 3 species in a 10 acre plot in the same region. For interested clients it can organise farming of up to 400 acre Alpine land.

Further, it is now managing an over 300 acres for organic herbs in Maharashtra.

Marketing Strategy :

The marketing Strategy/ approach may be split into 4-phases.

Start up : The target is to :

       a) Ship 20 tons of health foods with Ayurvedic values, 24 common supplements,              cosmetics and dental care products, etc. These are:
                  i. Quality tested and packed to meet highest standards
                 ii.  Appropriately labelled.
       b) Get 2 medico couples on a 3 years service contract.
       c) Negotiations started with well-being centres.

Short Term : First 18 months; Start small and build up by capitalising on State level visits.

      a) Reach the products to stockists and retailers and begin events participation.
      b) Support Caterers with material and expert support:
             a. Starting with Scotland, reach out to Midlands and then South UK.
             b. Glasgow, epicentre of our activities is also called Europe's curry capital.

Medium Term :
             a. Network with Academia and National level healthcare bodies, Private hospitals,                   Palliative care centres, Nursing homes, etc.
             b. expand the business to other European countries.

Investor Control :
Proportionate to overall investments.

Returns and Investments :
Expected ROI to be 4 years and returns thereafter @ 12 to 15 %. Short ROI is on account of ALPS operational norms. Conforming to Earth Charter declarations, this model lays emphasis on social commitment and performance linked executive reward.

Our estimate for 3 to 5 year period is to raise £1 Million to 2.5 Millions with sale of equity. Of this, about £1.5 millions to set up 2 centres in Scotland and one in Europe.

Long term and expansion: Entirely self funded.

Yunani' or 'Unani' system relates to the ‘Ionian' or Greek (Yunan – in Arabic and Hindi). Of the best known in this is of physician Hippocrates. Its roots in India are not clearly known, however, they can go even beyond 3rd century BC. Common amongst Muslims, a Yunani physician in India is called ‘Hakim', the word originates from ‘hikmat' or treatment in Arabic. Almost all its products are traditionally prepared and involve herbs, etc.

Siddha : Siddha traces it's over 3000 years' old roots to 18 ancient holy sages or ‘Siddhas'. A contemporary Siddha blends medicine and mysticism. The ingredients are mostly herbal based – very like their north India cousins, Ayurveda.

Tibetan : Tibetan medicine is called gSoba Rig-pa, the science of healing. 95% of Tibetan medicine is based on herbs . However, like Ayurveda it also uses plant extracts, resins, saps, soils, rocks, metals, etc.

Homeopathy :
Homeopathy in India is traced to Dr. John Martin Honigberger Transylvanian . An allopath, he treated Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab in 1830's and returned to Europe in 1834. In Europe he met Hahnemann. Later, while practicing in Constantinople , he got an invitation from the Maharaja to return. This he did and introduced homeopathy to India in 1839.

Breaking News

www.pib.nic.in

DELHI, INDIA, November 13, 2005: As part of the strategy to mainstream
AYUSH (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy Systems etc.) and reinforce healthcare delivery through Primary Health Network, the Government has decided to appoint AYUSH doctors in Primary Health Centres and Community Health Centres. Initially, AYUSH doctors and medicines would be made available in single doctor Primary Health Centres and two doctor Community Health Centres in every District, to give AYUSH Health Care System, a boost. This was disclosed by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, while addressing the International Ayurveda Congress, here today.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala having such integrated health services, have proved the worth and usefulness of these, in improving health delivery, the Minister said. In its endeavour to expand the usage of indigenous health system, particularly in rural and backward areas, the Government has taken measures to mainstream and integrate
AYUSH and provide choice and cross-referral facilities, to the public under one roof.

Dr. Ramadoss regretted that credibility of our traditional systems are at stake for want of evidence of efficacy and safety as well as quality control of these medicines. A strategic road map is being prepared to ensure quality production of these medicines. In fact, the magnitude of drug induced health hazards can be considerably brought down, if the industry observes, strict quality control and maintains safety and efficacy of the products. Dr. Ramadoss pointed out that even in foreign countries like USA, Germany and European Nations, Ayurveda, Yoga etc. are becoming very popular. It is indicative of the strength of our traditional systems of medicine and we must make the best of it, he added.
