Ayurvedic Cooking

Ayurvedic Foods and InformedLife
Ayurveda categorizes foods by;
   A. Taste or Rasa; such as sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent.
   B. Nature/ Quality or Guna ;
        a. Physical such as dry or unctuous, heavy or light, warm or cool
        b. Subtle such as Sattvic, Rajasic or Tamasic for the impact they have on mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Ayurvedic healers therefore prescribe that each main meal should include each of the taste. Foods therefore are identified and used to create and/ or maintain the balance. All InformedLife products are grown, processed, packaged and transported in accordance with Ayurvedic principles. With ALps Limited following Vedic guidelines, all activities are being made to follow Vedic guidelines to the extent possible.

Ayurvedic Cooking

Cooking the Ayurvedic way is for those that ‘care' for their families and themselves. InformedLife acknowledges that a family's true wealth lies in good health and ‘well-being' feel that its members enjoy. However, even though food is central to human existence, being cumbersome, its preparation is relegated to ‘avoidable' chores most of the developed and many developing countries. With a little time once can use simple principles to infuse spiritual ‘life' force into foods by being aware of the ‘satva' and ‘tatva' elements of the food, especially for the elderly and the young.

Suitable for community centres, social groups, Yoga classes, etc. the workshops main focus will be on ‘live' vegetarian foods.

1) Integral cooking with ‘satva' and ‘tatva' awareness, to care for the elderly and      the young
2) Introduction to ‘natures; ‘vata' (air), ‘pitta' (pitta) and ‘kapha' (phlegm).
   a) Cereals and grains,
   b) Lentils/ pulses and Vegetables.
   c) Spices and condiments (pickles/ preserves).
   d) Health drinks.
   e) Fruits and salads

3) The cooking media – Steaming, Oils and fats.
4) Utensils.
5) Cooking – the process. –
6) Serving – and combinations for ‘healing' diets.

Preparing to cook : Anecdotal references, mechanical vs. ‘soul' cooking, leading to improved family health and eventual wealth. Towards later, some references will also be made on home décor and arrangements according to ancient vastushastra (Chinese - feng-shui) principals.
